Character Name: Aigis
Age: Chronologically ~ 10 years old since activation date. Equivalent to ~17ish
Canon: Persona 3: Reload
Canon Point: Episode Aigis -The Answer- After visiting the Velvet Room with everyone, but before waking up.
Character History: Wiki background
Canon Abilities:
Aigis is an Anti-Shadow Suppression Weapon, a special type of android specifically designed to manifest a special skill known as a Persona to fight monsters known as Shadows. She has the ego and emotions of a human, but the physical body of a machine.
As a combat android, Aigis naturally is more physically powerful than a human. She's stronger, faster, and more resilient than a fleshy body. She's not invulnerable, of course, and can be damaged and broken, but she can tolerate a lot more than a human. Aigis is equipped with natural weapons even without her Persona abilities. Her figners are designed to be able to shoot bullets with the same power as any gun. She requires normal ammunition for this, but you know. Watch out! Given her status as not-quite-human, her line of androids have the side effect of being able to understand animals as clearly as she can humans. (Note: she loses this ability in The Answer, but it's heavily implied to be due to her wish and her shadow splitting away to form Metis. Because at her canon point they've rejoined, I think it's fair to say she would have regained this ability.). Technically, Aigis is immortal as long as her core -- the Papillion Heart -- remains in tact. However, due to her development and growth towards being more human, it's not that simple any more. Even so, parts of her body are relatively replaceable as long as her core and her memories remain in tact.
However, her primary purpose was to be able to access the Persona ability. Personas are manifestations of the hidden side of a person's soul as a mythological figure that can attack enemies both physically and with magic. Normally summoning a Persona requires an Evoker, a specialized peice of equipment that looks like a gun, but Aigis' Evoker is built into her body.
While most people can only summon a single Persona (as could Aigis until recently), she has recently awakened to the power of the Wildcard, inherited from her former leader after he, uh, stopped using it. This allows her to collect multiple Personas, fuse and summon new ones (with the help of the Velvet Room, which won't be available to her). Aigis can switch between Personas in battle as long as she has them in her roster.
Upon arriving to the fae realm, Aigis will have six personas available with their standard listed abilities.
In addition to basic Persona abilities, Aigis can also access an ability called Theugy. Theugy is a special skill one can access after gathering enough energy and using a special cartridge into the Evoker. In a Wildcard's case, the Theugy requires a specific pairing of Personas. I am leaving this section sparse because she doesn't have any of her Wildcard pairings, and will be giving up this power anyway. Her wildcard Theugies can be seen here. Her original Theugy, Orgia Mode, is not available because she's not using that Persona anymore! She's forgotten how to access that, despite it being a facet of her build....
Inventory: The clothes on her back, which is really just the ribbon. She did not maintain any equipment from the Abyss of Time. The fae gave her some clothes upon arrival at least.
🦋 Personality
Option 1: Answer the following questions. Elaborate on the answer, especially your characters thoughts and feelings surrounding the answer. For Canon Characters, you can choose four questions. For Original Characters, you will need to choose six questions. Keep the word count to 150-400 per question.
- Has your character always believed in magic? Do they have something influencing their perspective on the supernatural/metaphysical/spiritual from their past? How do they feel about magic?
- If your character could ask for one wish, and it's going to be magically granted without any consequence, what will it be and why?
- What is your character's most outstanding personality trait, and why?
- Your character gets to return home, but when they do they learn that they've been gone for hundreds of years. How do they react?
There was never any choice for Aigis to believe in magic, or at least the supernatural. She is a being made of it, her core form from shed feathers of the embodiment of death itself. She was always meant to exist in the margins where the metaphysical exists, tucked away from everyone else in the name of defending them. She's an Anti-Shadow Weapon, doomed to exist most actively in the Dark Hour -- the hour that so, so very few can even experience.
So in a lot of ways, that's normal to her, and the mundane world everyone lives in is something mystical and mysterious. She was never meant to step into that world for more than brief, brief periods of time, and was kept isolated from normal life. But her time with SEES allowed her an opportunity to actually experience the mundane in a way she was never meant to, and begin to experience an actual normal life. It was this that allowed her to grow, to become more human, and become more powerful.
It has taken a long time and Aigis is still very much a newcomer to the normal life -- one she nearly rejected again in her grief -- but she has begun to finally find a balance. The shadow of the supernatural is something she will never escape, but has never wanted to escape. She is what she is, but she is also something more, something capable of thriving in the world of the mundane and even being happy. Somehow.
There's absolutely no question: Aigis would want to bring their leader back. Her entire reason for existence was to protect him, and to lose him so suddenly absolutely absolutely devastated her. And for some time, she would have given almost anything to have him back.
But... at her canonpoint, she's had to accept that there is no easy way to get him back. If offered this impossible wish, it's possible she wouldn't even take it, because she wouldn't believe it could come with no circumstances. She's still determined to save him, but is convinced there's a way to save him by making it so his sacrifice is no longer needed.
After all, in a larger sense, she's come to accept that there is no happiness without pain, no meaning to life without death around the corner. Such a perfect, strings-free deal seems suspicious at this point to her. This comes not out of cynicism, but an acceptance of grief and embracing of life as it is.
Still. There will always be a part of her that will be tempted, if only for a moment.
It might be easy to think that maybe her protective streak, her need to defend, might be her defining trait, but... Aigis is a creature of melancholy. She is someone that is eternally haunted by the past, no matter what that past was or when. Guilt plagues her over things she had no control over, contemplation for her very reason for existence is a common concern of hers, and she is so often selflessly trying to martyr herself if it's for her loved ones' happiness.
Maybe it's something inherent in what was necessary to give her a Persona, but Aigis is constantly caught up in philosophizing about her nature, and the nature of where she belongs. Perhaps it's only natural with her complicated status of a robot growing a human heart, but the growing pains of regular life fill her with doubt and uncertainty. Even when she was so certain that Ryoji was dangerous, a small part of her fell into melancholy at the fact that she couldn't just accept her leader having a friend. Why her, and why does she act this way?
Every time one problem fades, another arrives. Aigis is tormented by her emotions, to the point of wishing herself to be an emotionless machine again at one point. And while she's embraced her life once again, it's certain that she will slip into that sea of sorrow at some point again, if only briefly. Suffering is a fact of life, after all, even if Aigis' tender heart feels it so intensely and so often.
In all honesty, it'd destroy her. Just before arriving to the fae realm she had managed to come to terms with her grief in a way that allowed her to move forward positively, but... so much of that hinged on embracing her friends and the connections they'd made with each other. If the answer to life is friendship, how is one supposed to cope with losing everyone they'd ever known?
Really, even in the fae realm, she's bound to struggle. Isolation does nobody good, but Aigis is prone to it and the kind of person who needs gentle guiding out of it. Her own experience in beginning to form friendship was a slow and gradual process, eased out of her like a stray animal learning to trust again. Even if she has some experience making friends and socializing now, it's going to be hard to feel comfortable again without her safety net.
Still. She's made it through so much pain and suffering, she'd... find a way. Probably. Maybe. There's always hope. And, well, there's a small part of her that's always known she'll likely outlive her friends, that she'll never age with them, that she'll see a world without them. It's just... not something she wants to think about right now.
